NFL Roundup: Broncos Mount Late Comeback Versus Philadelphia, Baltimore Endure Historic Home-field Defeat
Denver Broncos 21β17 Philadelphia Eagles
Bo Nix connected with a short touchdown pass and JK Dobbins contributed a two-yard ground touchdown in the final period as the Denver Broncos overcame a 14-point deficit to hand the Eagles their first loss of the campaign. Denver's defense deflected the Eagles quarterback's final attempt on the game's concluding play to send the reigning title holders to just their second defeat in their previous 22 outings. Denver (3-2) got fortunate in their rally when the Eagles had a crucial play nullified on an illegal shift penalty whistled against star ball carrier Barkley.
Houston Texans 44β10 Baltimore Ravens
Houston's quarterback threw for 244 yards and four scoring throws, and the Texans (two wins and three losses) strolled to a 44-10 win over an injury-ravaged Ravens squad, matching both the most lopsided road win in Texans' history and the worst home defeat in Ravens' history. The Ravens (one win and four losses) were without two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, and that was far from their only problem. Defensive standouts multiple defensive leaders all missed the game, and the Ravens already were weakened on defense because of a cervical issue that ended the defensive lineman's season. Baltimore were also missing Pro Bowl blocker Ricard and offensive lineman Stanley.
Colts Rout Raiders in One-Sided Affair
Jonathan Taylor scored three rushing scores and a two-point conversion, and the quarterback passed for two touchdown passes as the Indianapolis Colts routed the Las Vegas Raiders. The 34-point margin was Indy's largest since the 2013 season. The quarterback finished 20 passes out of 29 attempts for 212 passing yards and moved to 4-1 as a starter this season, surpassing his combined victory total over the previous two years with the New York Giants. The running back rushed 17 attempts for 66 rushing yards and grabbed three receptions for 20 yards. Indianapolis converted a blocked punt, two interceptions and a turnover on downs into touchdowns. Las Vegas fell to 4-1.
Dallas Cowboys 37-22 New York Jets
Dak Prescott passed for four touchdown passes, guiding the Cowboys to a comfortable win over the Jets. Dallas put points on the board on two long marches in the second quarter, despite being without key linemen on the offensive line. Javonte Williams gained 135 yards and a score and also hauled in a receiving touchdown. The Cowboys, now two wins, two losses, and a tie, rebounded from a high-scoring draw against Green Bay last Sunday. New York are still without a victory at zero wins and five losses in Aaron Glenn's inaugural year as head coach.
Minnesota Vikings 21β17 Cleveland Browns
Minnesota wideout Addison grabbed a short scoring reception from the quarterback with 25 seconds left to give Minnesota victory over the Cleveland Browns at the UK venue. This methodical march gave the Minnesota (3-2) a much-needed win on their historic international road trip, which started with a narrow defeat to the Pittsburgh in Dublin last week. It also spoiled the rookie's first NFL start, as the Cleveland rookie positioned his squad (one win and four losses) in contention by throwing two scores. Fellow rookie Judkins rushed for 110 rushing yards on 23 attempts. The quarterback overcame a shoulder injury that temporarily sent him to the locker room and led two scoring drives in the latter half.
Miami Dolphins 24-27 Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young threw for two scores and the running back ran for 206 yards and a score as the Carolina Panthers came back against the Miami Dolphins in Charlotte. Young's short pass to rookie tight end Mitchell Evans with under two minutes to go gave the Carolina (two wins and three losses) the decisive advantage as they matched the biggest rally to win a game in team history by erasing a 17-point hole. The QB had a poor start, but he ended up 19-for-30 passing for 198 passing yards with one pick. The backup, replacing injured Chuba Hubbard, did his damage on the run on 23 carries, coming up just short shy of the single-game franchise rushing record. The Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa completed 27 of 36 for 256 yards with three scores and receiver Waddle gained 110 receiving yards on six receptions and added a score, but the Miami (1-4) dropped to 0-3 in away contests.
New York Giants 14β26 New Orleans Saints
Spencer Rattler passed for a long score to receiver Shaheed, safety Jordan Howden scooped up a loose ball the length of the field for a touchdown, and the Saints defeated the error-prone New York Giants for the New Orleans' first victory under rookie coach Kellen Moore. Rattler earned his maiden win in 11 career starts, throwing for 225 yards without any mistakes. Giants rookie QB Dart, who won his debut last Sunday, passed for 202 yards and two scores, but also committed errors on three occasions. The Giants gave up possession on five separate plays in all, with none worse than when the defender forced a fumble from ball carrier Skattebo, resulting in the safety's touchdown. Each squad are 1-4.
