Democratic lawmakers State White House Refusing Government Closure Talks as President Repeats Warning of Firings

A high-ranking administration official has indicated that large-scale layoffs of federal workers could start if the chief executive determines that talks to conclude the administration stoppage are "completely going nowhere|making no progress|stalled completely}."

Kevin Hassett told CNN that he still observed a possibility that Democrats would concede, but added that the president was "getting ready to act|take action|intervene" if necessary.

Stalled Negotiations

Zero substantial evidence of talks have surfaced between legislative leaders since Trump sat down with them recently. The closure started on 1 October, after upper chamber Democrats rejected a short-term budget measure that would keep public offices open through to 21 November.

"Democrats have chosen not to negotiate with us," Democratic Senate leader the Senate minority leader told CBS, claiming the deadlock could be ended only by more talks between the president and the four legislative officials.

Political Claims

The GOP Speaker of the House claimed Democrats of being "lacking seriousness" in talks to resolve the federal government shutdown, while the Democratic leader faulted GOP lawmakers of driving the crisis.
